Black Maternal Health Funds

The Black Maternal Health Fund at The Womb Room is a transformative initiative dedicated to addressing the alarming disparities in maternal health outcomes for Black individuals. In the United States, Black mothers are three to four times more likely to experience pregnancy-related complications or death compared to white mothers. This disparity stems from systemic inequities, including bias in healthcare, reduced access to high-quality prenatal and postpartum care, and the enduring impact of structural racism on health outcomes.

By contributing to this fund, you help create meaningful change in how Black birthing individuals and families are supported throughout their pregnancy journey. The fund emphasizes fostering respectful and equitable maternity care practices. This includes prioritizing culturally sensitive education for healthcare providers, addressing implicit bias, and ensuring that care is delivered in ways that honor the dignity, autonomy, and unique needs of Black birthing individuals. Research underscores that these efforts can significantly improve trust and maternal health outcomes while reducing disparities.
